Wayne Gonzales

Wayne Gonzales. Waiting Crowd, 2009
Wayne Gonzales. Waiting Crowd. 2009.

Like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, Gonzales makes paintings that are both skeptical and romantic. Then he turns up the pressure, pushing the optical into the psychological: historical figures are individualized; corporate and political power is brought down to human scale; and viewers are invited to free-associate in an image-world that is both familiar and strange.
